Why Men’s Pelvic Floor PT Isn’t Weird (The Less-Censored Version)

Updated: Oct 14

Alright guys, let’s cut to the chase and discuss something that doesn’t make it into the happy hour small talk: your pelvic floor. (Yes, we’re going there...down there).

Yes, you’ve got one. And if it’s not working right, it can cause pain, mess with your bladder, your performance, and even your confidence. The worst part? Most men don’t even know pelvic floor physical therapy exists — so they put up with problems they don’t have to.

Before you roll your eyes or squirm in your chair, hear me out. We’re not talking about a yoga class (although those are great.) It’s real, it works, and it might just fix the problems you’ve been quietly Googling at 2 a.m.

What Is the Pelvic Floor Anyway?

Think of your pelvic floor as the “unsung hero” of your body. It’s a group of muscles that keep everything below the belt working as it should — bladder, bowels, and yes, the bedroom equipment.

When it’s strong and coordinated, life is good! When it’s weak, tight, or just out of sync, life gets… complicated (and sad).

The Big 4 Problems We Fix

  1. Leaks — That’s not “just part of getting older.” Not always.

  2. Pre and Post-Prostate Surgery Recovery — Surgery saves lives, but it can leave you with bladder or sexual side effects. Pelvic PT helps you bounce back faster.

  3. Pelvic Pain — Back pain, achy hips, groin pain, testicular pain, even tailbone pain can all be pelvic-floor related.

  4. Bedroom Problems — Erectile dysfunction, partial hardness, premature ejaculation, or pain with intimacy. Not fun, but fixable.

Myths Men Believe About Pelvic Floor Problems (and Why They’re Wrong)

1. “Me and YouTube will fix it.”Maybe. Kind of. For about five minutes. But if your problems aren’t going away, it’s time for an actual pro. Watching a 22-year-old fitness influencer demo “male Kegels” is not the same as treatment.

2. “Real men don’t have problems down there.”Yeah, let’s drop that macho nonsense. You’re human. Bodies do weird things. But here’s the cool part — bodies can also heal. Pretending you’re fine while you leak on your golf shorts? That’s not macho, bro.

3. “It’s all about Kegels, and I can already do those.”No, it isn’t. And $100 says you can’t. (Rhetorical bet, don’t Venmo me.) Kegels are only one small piece of the puzzle, and most guys actually do them wrong. Pelvic PT is way more than just “squeeze and pray.”

4. They Are the “Only One”. Not even close. Pelvic health issues are super common for men, in most cases, there is NO REASON TO ALLOW THESE PROBLEMS TO CONTINUE!

Why You Should Consider Seeing a PT for This Stuff

It doesn’t always fix itself. While waiting it out may have been a great strategy for some of life’s problems, it doesn’t always work. Pelvic floor issues usually don’t just vanish. In fact, the longer you wait, the longer it takes to recover. Working with a physical therapist that specializes in men’s issues can make a HUGE difference in a fairly short time frame.

It’s not as bad as you think.Pelvic PT isn’t all prostates and penises. Most of the work is with your pelvis, hips, core, and postural alignment. In fact, 90% of our exams and treatments you’ll be in shorts and a t-shirt, without exposing the no-no zone.

Pelvic Floor PT Isn’t Weird (Promise)

  • Your Therapist is a Man

Finding a well trained pelvic health physical therapist is difficult enough. Finding a male PT who does so is nearly impossible.

  • What happens in PT stays in PT: This may not be as much fun as Vegas, but its just as confidential. We keep it private and professional.

  • This is normal conversation: We talk about this stuff every day. For us, it’s just another Tuesday.

  • Judgment-free zone: Body’s are complex- and weird! Its a part of being human. We’ve truly seen it all. Nothing you say is going to shock us (probably).

  • We have a sense of humor: Sometimes humor makes it easier. Yes, “high and dry” jokes have been made. Don’t worry, we’ll avoid awkward eye contact if you want.

  • Let us be clear- an internal assessment is NEVER required.

This should not be a barrier to seeking help. There are times when a rectal exam can provide truly useful information, but it is always at your consent.

  • We Truly Want to Help

The entire reason we do this is because the need in our community is huge. These issues are greatly impacting the quality of life of people we care about, and opportunities to discuss concerns or seek help is otherwise limited.

The Bottom Line

Pelvic health issues aren’t just “women’s problems” — they’re human problems. And men deserve solutions, too. Whether it’s bladder control, pelvic pain, or performance in the bedroom, pelvic floor PT can help you take back control.

So ditch the excuses. No more suffering in silence or pretending it’s “normal.” Let’s get you back in control!
